The Stock Exchange of Thailand's benchmark SET Index rose 1.61 points to close at 671.98. A total of 1.08 billion shares worth 6.8 billion baht were traded.
"Overnight gains in Wall Street and rises in most regional bourses are supportive, but these are not enough to inspire investors to buy shares actively," says Peter Limsupanark, strategist at BFIT Securities. "They prefer to wait for clarification on macro economic policies."
The appointment of Chalongphob Sussangkarn as finance minister was endorsed by King Bhumibol Adulyadej Wednesday.
Among the actively trade issues were PTT up 1 percent at 204 baht, PTT Exploration & Production up 0.5 percent at 93.50 baht, Bangkok Bank up 0.9 percent at 108 baht and Airports of Thailand up 3.5 percent at 60 baht.
